Every day brings a new story. And each day contributes to story telling -- in prose and in poetry, in art and in music, on the stage, on the screen, and, of course, in books.
Today is the story of June 4th

It is the 155th day of the year, leaving 210 days remaining in 2022.
They recognize excellence in telling stories, in both fiction and non-fiction, as well as in drama and music,
At the first awarding, prizes were given in just four categories: In journalism, for reporting and editorial writing, and in books for history and biography.
In 1917, Hubert Bayard Swope of The New York World won for reporting, and the New York Tribune won for editorial writing. With Americans of Past and Present Days won for history, and Julia Ward Howe, 1918-1920 won for biography.
The awards, generally considered the most prestigious in journalism, have grown in 2022 to 15 category awards, which includes newspaper, magazine, radio, and online publications. Non-journalism awards in 2022, generally for books, drama, and music, have seven separate categories. The Pulitzer board also sometimes awards prizes in special categories.
The awards were instituted after the death of newspaper magnate Joseph Pulitzer, who published the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The New York World. (He was also one of the early proponents of "yellow journalism," started during a circulation war with William Randolph Hearst in New York at the turn of the 19th-20th Century.)
Pulitzer, who died in 1911, left $250,000 in his will to Columbia University, which instituted the prizes to recognize excellence in journalism, letters, and drama.
